The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a fabulous program called Canine Good Citizen. In addition to being a title for your dog, it is recognition for you and your dog's hard work in developing manners out in the real world beyond a classroom setting! It is also a jumping off point for several additional titles such as Urban Canine, Community Canine, and Trick dog. Even if not registered with the AKC, your dog can earn titles and ribbons showing off his various skills.
This is an intermediate level class teaching real life skills and improving the skills your dog already has with special attention on focus, loose leash walking, sitting politely for petting, coming when called, leave it, and working around distractions.
The prerequisite for these training sessions is basic obedience or its equivalent. Your dog should already have a general understanding of how to sit, lay down, walk on a leash, come when called and stay. This is the class that will allow you to polish those skills, proof them around distractions and prepare you for the Canine Good Citizen Evaluation to be held at the last class on Sunday, December 22, 2019.
