AKC Canine Good Citizen & More

Is Your Dog A Canine Good Citizen?

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a fabulous program called Canine Good Citizen. In addition to being a title for your dog, it is recognition for you and your dog's hard work in developing manners out in the real world beyond a classroom setting! It is also a jumping off point for several additional titles such as Urban Canine, Community Canine, and Trick dog. Even if not registered with the AKC, your dog can earn titles and ribbons showing off his various skills.

This is an intermediate level class teaching real life skills and improving the skills your dog already has with special attention on focus, loose leash walking, sitting politely for petting, coming when called, leave it, and working around distractions.

The prerequisite for these training sessions is basic obedience or its equivalent. Your dog should already have a general understanding of how to sit, lay down, walk on a leash, come when called and stay. This is the class that will allow you to polish those skills, proof them around distractions and prepare you for the Canine Good Citizen Evaluation to be held at the last  class on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Class dates:
Sunday, November 10, 2019
Sunday, November 24, 2019
Sunday, December 1, 2019
Sunday December 8, 2019
Sunday, December 15, 2019
Sunday, December 22, 2019

Please note that due to a precheduled event, we will be skipping over Sunday, November 17, 2019 and resuming class on Sunday, November 24, 2019.

Dogs must be enrolled and proof of current vaccinations confirmed prior to the first class. Positive, reward based methods only are used. The course fee including the Canine Good Citizen evaluation is $150.

This class is for dogs that are non-reactive around other dogs and people.

The initial class on Sunday, November 10th will be held at the Palm Beach Paw Spa at 1312 Commerce Way, Jupiter, FL.  Some subsequent classes may be held at local parks or shopping centers to provide a real life setting for your skills!

Please call Linda Kender at (561) 308-9651 with questions or to confirm your place in class.
